Richard "Rick" Gable, loving husband, father, uncle and grandfather of Spring, Texas passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021 at the age of 76. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to parents Clark and Adele Gable and graduated from Deerfield High School and Parsons College.
Rick grew up in Northbrook and Deerfield, Illinois where he met his wife, Shelley of 49 years. After the birth of their first son and ready for a life change, Rick decided to relocate his young family to Houston for new professional opportunities and warm weather. He quickly found the Spring area and resided there for over 45 years and raised his three children Kevin, Justin and Rachel and made lifelong friends.
Being in Houston in the boom times of the 70s, Rick found his first employment within his first day of searching and ended up spending his entire career in the oil and gas industry as a salesman and manufacturer’s representative for valves, compressors, engines and other engineered products. He retired as a salesman and project manager for grout and installation services for the refineries in the Houston/Galveston area.
Rick loved his Yorkshire Terrier, Coco for the past 7 years and had a special place in his heart. They were avid watchers of the Houston Astros and Texans, walking partners and companions. He had a kind and generous spirit and was always willing to help. Car mechanics was his specialty.
Rick is preceded in death by his father, mother and grandchildren, Hunter and Kylie and brother-in-law Mike. He is survived by his devoted wife, Shelley; his children Kevin and wife Kristin, Justin and wife Sarah and Rachel; sister, Diane and husband Ron and sister, Lynn, brother Jeff and wife Gini, brothers- in -law Jeff and wife Colleen and Darren and wife Melody; grandchildren Hailey, Will, Chloe , Ben, Kinley, Caden and Callie. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held Friday, November 5, 2021 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Cashner Funeral Home. Celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 10:00am in Cashner Colonial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers a memorial donation can be made to any of the charities Rick supported: any veteran charity, Special Olympics, Salvation Army, Star of Hope or local food bank.
