Phyllis M. Ross, 85, of Conroe, Texas passed away peacefully on April 1, 2017. Phyllis was born on January 7, 1932 in St. Paul, Nebraska, the daughter of Julius and Josie (Breska) Nevrivy. Phyllis attended St. Paul public schools and was a member Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Phyllis was united in marriage to John Ross on October 22, 1951. They shared 53 years of wonderful memories. Through the years as a very busy mother Phyllis raised four children, two boys and two girls. Her life was full of the usual daily routines including cooking, cleaning, picking up and dropping off kids, church activities, and dinner. The family enjoyed camping and frequent vacation trips across the country, as far south as Mexico and as far north as Canada. After the kids grew up and moved out she enjoyed becoming a grandmother to 4 boys. She and John continued to travel but her interests were drawn to antiques and quilting. Phyllis was proud of the many hand-stitched quilts she created, many of them now destined to become family heirlooms. No story about Phyllis can be complete without mentioning her love of creating the perfect kolache and cinnamon roll. (she really had a secret ingredient). Many a parishioner at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe lined up to buy her cherry, apple, peach, sausage, and poppy seed kolaches as well as cinnamon rolls at bake sales. Phyllis would work all day Saturday to make dozens for a Sunday bake sale – and loved every minute of it! Phyllis was a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court #1884, where she was voted Catholic Daughter of the Year in 2003. She was also a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul and a member of the Sacred Heart Ladies Workshop. Phyllis had a good life and despite frequent aches and pains was happy until the end and rarely complained. She was a wonderful, loving, caring, and compassionate mother that loved and lived her faith. Phyllis is survived by sons Randy Ross and Brian Ross, daughter Kathy Degelia and husband Michael, and daughter Sara Chadwick and husband Kenneth, and grandsons Cody Degelia, Cameron Degelia, Cheyne Cegielski, Zachary Ross and step- granddaughter Keri Boswell and husband Bobby and great grandchildren Kingston, Nash and Violet Boswell, and Bray Goodson. Visitation for Phyllis will be held Wednesday April 5, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm with a rosary beginning at 6 pm in Metcalf Memorial Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday April 6, 2017 at 10 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Conroe, Texas. Burial will be at 1:30 pm at Forest Park Cemetery-The Woodlands. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent in her name to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Capital Campaign, 704 Old Montgomery Road, Conroe, TX 77301.
