Paul Leslie Smith, SR., 88, of River Plantation, in Conroe, Texas passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019. He was born on March 19, 1931, in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Anna Elizabeth Smith and Clifford Rineharte Smith.
Paul was a graduate of Wilkinsburg High School in Pennsylvania. He was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates baseball organization in 1950, at the age of 18. He was pulled up to the majors in 1953, where he played first base and left field. Paul was drafted into the Army for 3 years during the Korean war. He then returned to the Pirates for two season in 1957 to 1958. He was then sold to the Chicago Cubs. He retired from Triple A ball in 1964, and went to work for 3M Company and later SGI in Houston as Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Paul retired to spend time golfing and to spend time with his wife and family. He was funny, kind and a sweet man that everyone loved. He will be missed by all.
Paul is survived by his son, Paul Smith, Jr. and his wife Christine of Parker, Colorado; daughter, Sheryl Richardson and her husband Gary of Willis, Texas; son, Dale Smith and his wife Traci of Montgomery, Texas; grandchildren, Nicole Smith, Sean Smith, Kevin Richardson, Tricia Stewart and her husband Tyler, Ashley McNamara and husband Jonny, and Bradley Smith.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Jane Smith; brothers, Lou Smith and his wife Betty, Cliff Smith and his wife Ginny, and Glen Smith and sister, Evelyn Curtis-Heaviland.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas from 9:00am to 10:00am with the funeral service beginning at 10:00am.
