Melvin graduated from Conroe High School in 1966 and worked many jobs around the Conroe area until landing a job in the oil and gas industry. After working for Texaco for 15 years he moved his family back to Cut & Shoot and began working for Tortuga Operating Company as Operations Manager in the Tomball field. He was a dedicated worker, loved his family, enjoyed life to the fullest surrounding himself with good friends, good music and motorcycles.
Melvin is survived by his son, Bradley Ray Vick of Bellville, Texas, granddaughter, Presslie Morgan Vick of Spring, Texas, sister, Vickie Thornberry of Conroe, Texas, nieces, Rachael Yancey and Julie Peeler and nephews, David Thornberry and Michael Thornberry.
A visitation will be held Tuesday September 22, 2015 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Funeral Home in Conroe Texas. A memorial service will be held at the VFW Post 4709 located at 1303 West Semands St, Conroe Texas 77301 on Wednesday September 23, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A committal ceremony will take place at New Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Cut N Shoot, Texas at 12:30 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at the VFW with friends and family.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
The family would like to thank Johnny Chancey and family, Lisa Musgrove and Bethany Dwyer, Lisa Price, Jeanne Puckett and Lois Newman for all their help during this time.
