Maureen Massey Muth, 83, peacefully left this world to be with her Lord and Savior on July 12, 2017. Maureen was born October 30, 1933, in Ingram, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Massey and Norma Lackey Massey, and by her brother, Dale Massey. Maureen is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jack Muth of Magnolia, Texas; daughters: Jacqueline Faye Willingham and husband Keith of Spring, Texas, Cynthia Kay Gaskill and husband Chris of The Woodlands, Texas, and Kathryn Sue Willcoxon and husband Jeff of The Woodlands, Texas; grandchildren: Kaitlyn Willingham, Cole Gaskill, Cade Gaskill, Colin Gaskill, Tyler Willcoxon, Aubrey Willcoxon, and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Maureen grew up in Ingram, Texas and graduated from Tivy High School in Kerrville, Texas where she was a member of the Antlerette drill team. After high school, she attended the Durham Business College in San Antonio. While working at Straus-Frank in San Antonio, she met her future husband, Jack Muth, who she later married on May 19, 1960. Jack and Maureen lived in San Antonio, Oklahoma City, then Dallas before settling in Houston, Texas in 1969. They were original residents of Ponderosa Forest and lived there for 40 years before moving to Magnolia, Texas. Jack and Maureen enjoyed traveling and bowling. They were members of the Ponderosa Bowling League where they met many good friends. Maureen also had a passion for gardening and for 45 years was a member of the Ponderosa Garden Club. Maureen’s greatest joy was being “Mimi” to her six grandchildren. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and she was a loving example to them all.
Maureen was also very proud of her native Texan roots. She was a descendant of many Texas settlers who fought for Texas Independence during the era of the Republic of Texas including her 3rd great grandparents, Adam Zumwalt and Jane Strain Kent, sister to Andrew Kent who fought and died at the Alamo.
Jack and Maureen are members of the Spring Woods United Methodist Church in Houston, Texas. The family would like to thank her daily caregiver, Jordan, for all the gentle and loving care she gave to Maureen. In addition, the family thanks Nurse Lisa and the entire staff of Heart to Heart Hospice for the attentive care they provided Maureen during the last six months. The funeral service will be held Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Woodlands United Methodist Church located at 2200 Lake Woodlands Drive, The Woodlands, Texas. A private interment will take place at the Oklahoma Community Cemetery for immediate family members.
