Mary Helen Valdez, age 82, of Conroe, Texas passed July 21, 2024. Born on November 3, 1941, Helen was known for her stunning sense of style and her deep love for jazz music. Often you could have found her singing some of her favorites by Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, or Nancy Wilson. Helen’s character, love for God, heart, courage and kindness will be her everlasting legacy.
In her free time, Helen enjoyed a wide range of hobbies, these hobbies included listening to jazz music, singing in the choir, drawing, watching baseball, playing pool, bowling, or volleyball.
Helen was preceded in death by parents Jesse Valdez and Estella Gonzales; siblings Jesse Valdez, Jr. and Arcelia “Lupe” Starr; child Henry Sustaita, Jr. and grandchild Roger Rodriguez, Jr.
She is survived by her siblings Roger Gonzales, Roy Gonzales, and Micheal Gonzales; her children Maryln Grissom, Monica and Jon Ward; her grandchildren Eric and Courtney Sustaita, Deric Sustaita, Lydia and James Thumann, Daniel Richard and Sarah Rodriguez, and Mary Jane Maldonado; and her great grandchildren Kennedy, Ethan, Abigail, Noah, Hoyle, Sophia, Chloe and Zachary. Helen also held a special place in her heart for her honorary great grandchildren Rickey, Brittany, Gregory, Stephanie, and Abel.
A visitation for Mary will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Cashner Funeral Home. A funeral service will occur Friday, July 26, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas 77303. A graveside service will occur Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Rd, Corpus Christi, TX 78415.
As family and friends were truly cherished by Helen, she would appreciate you all being here today to celebrate her life. Thank you all for loving her so deeply.
