Lucy Mae Philpot Thompson went to see her Jesus face to face on October 11, 2012. Mae was born on May 7, 1920 in Manchester, Kentucky and moved with her family to Siloam Springs, Arkansas in her early teens. As a young woman, Mae, along with her sister, Lee, set out to Houston where she worked for Goodyear Tire & Rubber and met her future husband, James L. (Red) Thompson. Mae and Red were members of Broadway Baptist Church for over 20 years, meeting many of their lifelong friends. In 1970, they moved to the Conroe area. Mae loved people, everywhere she went she touched lives. She was loving, witty, vivacious and caring. As a charter member of West Conroe Baptist Church, she served her Lord as teacher, prayer warrior and greeter. Many, many people were welcomed each Sunday by her warmth and smiling face. Her life was one of service to her Lord and to the many people who He brought into her life. Her family was her joy and we will miss her deeply. Her life is a picture of love.
Proverbs 31:29-31 “Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all. Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her the product of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.”
She is preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James L. Thompson; her daughter, Becky Thompson and a welcoming host of sisters, brothers and friends. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Ann Shilling and husband, John; her son, Jimmy Thompson and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Johnny Shilling and wife, Stacy; Mark Shilling, Michelle Shilling, Tonya Wilemon and husband, Dusty, Trey Thompson and Tiffany Thompson; great-grandchildren, Payton, Katelynn, Lauren, Carter, Bailey and Colby Shilling and Baby Wilemon; brother, Jarve Philpot, sisters, Mena Fowler, Lee Beaman and Sophia Jones and a multitude of relatives and friends.
