Lewis M. Williams left us to be in Heaven on February 4, 2017 at the age of 85. A Visitation will be held Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Metcalf Funeral Directors in Conroe off Hwy 105 from 2:00pm-4:00pm. Services will be held Monday, February 13, 2017 at West Conroe Baptist Church located on Longmire Street in Conroe at 11:00am. Lewis was known as “Sonny” when he was younger but quit using that name as he got older. He was born in Olney, Texas on June 3, 1931 to Robert and Xenia Williams but spent most of his youth in Abilene, Texas. He graduated from high school in 1948; married his loving wife, Jamelle Nuckols in 1950 and spent the next 66 happy years together. After a two year hitch in the Navy as a Seabee, he attended Texas Tech University and received a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering in 1957. He then spent 32 years working in the oil industry retiring in 1989 from Tenneco Oil Company.
He and Jamelle retired to Walden on Lake Conroe where they built a home and a life full of friends and activities. He is survived by his wife, Jamelle, three children, Jan Williams, Bryan Williams and wife Pippa, Brenda Vowels and husband David, 5 surviving grandchildren, Jordan, Victoria, Madeline, Max, and Abby and many cousins and nieces. He was preceded in death by grandson Shawn Michael Vowels and sister Bobbie Jean Hamilton. He was a member of West Conroe Baptist Church and enjoyed working at the church in many capacities. He was very active in the community of Walden on Lake Conroe and served in many capacities there. He was a long time member of the Montgomery Philosophical Society. In lieu of flowers the family asks tributes go to West Conroe Baptist Church Building Fund or M. D. Anderson Cancer Research.
