Lewis Henry Gaines, Jr, 71, lost his courageous battle with cancer on June 8, 2016, at home surrounding by his family and friends. He was born on November 17, 1944 to Lewis and Ila Gaines of Huntsville, Texas. He attended Sam Houston State University for both his Bachelor degree and his MBA and was an active member of the fraternity, Sigma Chi. He was a First Lieutenant in The United States Army where he received the National Defense Service Medal. He worked as an accountant for over 40 years and retired in 2008. In retirement, he worked as a part time pharmaceutical courier for APB Services up until his diagnosis. Everyone knew Lewis for his ability to tell jokes and make others laugh. He always had a smile on his face. His hobbies included watching old westerns, going to the movies, shopping, playing dominoes, traveling, singing in his church choir and being a grandpa. He is survived by his parents Lewis and Ila Gaines, wife, Mary Gaines, daughters; Cindy (Tim) Grant, Kelly (Jeff) Corliss, Kelly (Daniel) Vergamini, sons; Clayton Gaines and Jamie Mullikin, grandsons; Jake (Caitlin) Holden, Corey (Stormey) Holden, Mason Holden, Tyler Decker, Trevor Grant, Jackson Gaines, granddaughter; Madison Gaines, sister Carolyn Gaines as well as numerous family and friends. Visitation will be at Cashner Funeral Home on Teas Road in Conroe, Texas on June 12, 2016 from 5-7pm. Funeral services will be on June 13, 2016 at 10:30am at Gateway Baptist Church in Spring, Texas. Burial will be at Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Houston, Texas immediately after. Pallbearers will be Clayton Gaines, Jeff Corliss, David Evans, Bill Folsom, Jake Holden, Corey Holden, Mason Holden and Jamie Mullikin.
