Leroy Oliver Lormand (95) went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 19, 2022 at 6:38 PM at Conroe General Hospital. Leroy passed peacefully with his daughter Melanie Shackelford by his side. Leroy was living an independent life at his home in April Sound.
He was born November 30, 1926 in Port Arthur, TX and was among 4 brothers and 2 half-brothers. At the age of 14 he was working at a Pharmacy in Kinder, LA and by age 16 decided to join the US Navy with his older brother Wayne Lormand. They passed as twins and he served for 3 ½ years on the USS Saratoga. He had an Honorable Discharge and went back to Kinder, Louisiana and met with first wife, Anna Mae Musick in Orange, TX in 1946. They married and had four daughters. He gave his heart to the Lord at the age of 23 and was called to preach. He attended Southwestern Bible College in Waxahachie, TX and from there Pastored several churches and did Evangelistic work for 24 years. He later divorced in 1974 and then met Betty McWilliams at a Parents without Partners Group. They dated and married in 1976. The combined families of 4 children from each side. Leroy with 4 daughters and Betty with 2 Sons and 2 Daughters. They lived a happy and harmonious life for 39 years until Betty passed away on November 27, 2015. Between the two of them they had 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
After Leroy left the ministry he built his career as an Independent Distributer for the Houston Chronicle for 27 years. He retired at the age of 70 and he and Betty would spend time traveling and enjoying life together. After Betty’s death his daughter Melanie Shackelford sold her townhome in Houston and moved in with her Daddy. She lived there for 4 years cooking for him, keeping house cleaned, and taking him to doctor’s appointments. She married in 2021 and moved in with her husband William f. Shackelford in the Woodlands. Leroy was able to maintain independent life at his resident while Melanie continued to visit and prepare meals for him on a regular basis. This was his plan to be in his home until he was called to his eternal home and that is exactly what he did.
He will be buried next to Betty at Forest Park Cemetery and Funeral Home at 12800 Westheimer, Houston, TX 7077 on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 2:00 PM. Viewing will be at Metcalf Funeral Home on Thursday, August 25, 2022 from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM. 1801 E. White Oak Terrace, Conroe, TX 77304. Leroy was preceded in death by his first wife Anna Mae Landry, then the Love of his Life, Betty Lormand, as well as his daughters Renee Mashue and Linda Brown.
LeRoy is survived by his daughter Melanie Ann Shackelford and husband William; and his daughter Marilyn Denise Brown.
LeRoy is also survived by his grandchildren, Kimberly Whatley, James Whatley and wife Jennifer, Autumn Mashue, Brett Campbell and wife Shari, Brittny Campbell, Blake Campbell and wife Selam, Jason Murdock, Tiffany Pearson and Abigale Pearson,as well as 10 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
He was a devoted Father and Husband and lived a life as Christ for his example. He attended and worked in the church of April Sound Church as a Sunday School Teacher and filled in for the Pastor when he was on leave. Leroy loved making chimes and Crosses for friends and family and would give the away as a token of his love. Those that have one, Cherish it for the rest of your life.
