Laura Fern Pratt, 97, of Nevada, Missouri passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014 after a brief illness. Fern was born November 26, 1916 in Richards, Missouri to Oscar Swan and Nina Alice McCoy Swan. She was married to Joseph Lee Kirk II and then Arthur Pratt who both proceeded her in death.
Fern was raised in Lake Township in Vernon County and attended the Durham School. After her marriage to Art they moved to Houston, Texas, later settling in Cut N Shoot, Texas where she was on the City Council for many years. Upon the death of her husband, Fern moved to College Station, Texas to live with her granddaughter and grandson-in-law, splitting her time between Texas and Nevada where she could spend time with her brothers and sister and extended family. Fern loved quilting and was a member of several quilting clubs throughout the years, her quilts were masterpieces and are cherished by all her loved ones that were lucky enough to receive one from her. She was also an artist and her paintings hang in most all of her family and close friends homes. Survivors include her granddaughter, Laurie Lee Kirk Glameyer and her grandson-in-law Bill Glameyer of College Station, Texas. Her great-granddaughter and namesake JoHannah Fern Glameyer Nicholson and great grandson-in-law Shiloh Nicholson, her great-great grandson Sawyer William Nicholson and a great-great granddaughter Harper Rose Nicholson, arriving in October, of Cypress, Texas. One brother, Neale Swan of Nevada, Missouri and numerous family members of Nevada, Missouri. She was also preceded in death by her only child, Joseph Lee Kirk III.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 20th, for family and invited guests.
