Early September 2, 2018, Joy Lea McCormick Sheppard of Conroe, Texas, age 82, passed away at home. She was born in Gandy, Louisiana, January 4, 1936 to J. L. “John” and Rosie (Byrd) McCormick. Joy married Kenneth Vernon Sheppard January 26, 1955, at Prairie Missionary Baptist Church, in Tarkington, Texas. She retired from First Federal Savings and Loan after many years. Her faithfulness to her Savior is evident in her life of hospitality, integrity, dignity, and her participation in Women’s Ministries until her final illness limited her activities. Preceded in death by her parents, her brother J. L. “Junior” McCormick, several in-laws, and her beloved husband of 61 years, Ken Sheppard, Joy is survived by her sister Katherine (McCormick) Wyatt and spouse Jacque Wyatt, her daughter Jana (Sheppard) Symonds and spouse Dan Symonds, her son, Jon Sheppard, Sr. and spouse Joy Sheppard, four grandchildren Jon Sheppard, Jr. and spouse Lauren Sheppard, Matthew Sheppard and spouse Amy Sheppard, Danielle Symonds, and Elizabeth Sheppard, five precious great-granddaughters, in-laws Harvey and Joyce Sheppard, Marie (Sheppard) Needham, numerous nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. Funeral Service for Joy Lea Sheppard will be held at Cashner Funeral Home, in Conroe, Texas, on Friday, September 7, 2018, at 10:00am with visitation starting at 9:00am, prior to the service.
