Jose J. Trevino, age 89, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023 surrounded by his family. Jose was born in Kingsville, TX to Guadalupe and Aurora Trevino on August 19, 1934. He had one sister, Grace and they were raised in Laredo, TX. His childhood nickname, which friends still call him today was Pepe. Growing up in Laredo, he met three life-long friends. The group of four formed a plan to join the Army and later University together.
Jose served 2 years active duty in the United States Army based in West Germany and was honorably discharged in 1962. While attending the University of Texas, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Jose met his first wife, Melanie and they had a son, Jose Jr.
Jose started his career as a claims representative in McAllen, TX with Social Security Administration. He was promoted through the years moving to various locations and returning to McAllen where he served as the District Manager until he retired.
Jose met Rosemary through work and they were colleagues for many years before they married in 1985. She was the love of his life for 38 years. He loved to watch football, his favorite teams were the Texas Longhorns and the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoyed going to Las Vegas and really loved to sit and sip a drink as he watched the people. He was a huge Dolly Parton fan, enjoyed WWII stories, the military channel and collected and built model planes.
He had a great appreciation for people and felt like everyone had special qualities and sought to find value in everyone he met. He was a very generous man not only with his family, but also with his friends, not just with money but with his time. He retired from his lifelong career in 1992 and shortly after, moved to the Houston Area to be closer to family.
Jose is survived by his wife, Rosemary – his son, Jose, Jr. (Danese Cooper), granddaughters, Cassie Sidsworth (Justin Emmett), Lizzie Sidsworth (Donnie Williams), his grandson, Adi Cooper-Small and his great-grandchildren, Wallie, Drew, Oliver and Arthur, as well as his Niece, Deborah Shoup, several great nieces and nephews and his step-daughters, Carla Schwille (Marty Schwille) and Pamela Garza (Jorge Garza) – Grandchildren – Jennifer, Daniel, Courtney, Ryan and Amy and several great grandchildren.
His grandchildren lovingly refer to him as “Papa Joe” and he will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.
