Jean Marie Carroll was called to the Lord on January 22, 2024 at the age of 79 after a long battle with dementia. Born May 18, 1944 in Wallkill, NY, she was the daughter of Harold and Elaine Comerford. Jean worked on their dairy farm until graduating from Wallkill High School. In High School, she was on the basketball team (she was 4’11”), cheerleading squad, debate team, and theatre troupe. Upon graduating high school, she attended Albany College for Cosmetology and opened her own beauty shop.
Jean met Peter Carroll on a trip with friends to Lake Luzerne. They married on February 4, 1967. They had two sons, Sean and Kevin. They moved to Houston, Texas in 1980 and raised their sons there. Jean worked as a florist for the Kroger company becoming their regional floral lead in organizing and opening floral departments in new Kroger stores across Northwest Houston. They loved to travel together and meet new and interesting people. In retirement, Jean and Pete took their love of travel to the next level. They sold their home and saw the world. Jean and Pete traveled and camped over all 50 states, Canada, Germany, Mexico, Honduras, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and Italy. They settled in Florida for four years and then moved back to Houston. Her tenaciousness, small frame, and vibrant NY voice are infamous and will be missed. How many times did she emerge from the RV when the mountain mornings were 71 degrees and, at the top of her lungs, would proclaim how beautiful the day was!
Jean is survived by her husband Peter of 56 years, brother Robert (Eileen) Comerford and sister Lori (Freddie) Schmidt. Two sons Sean (Yissel) and Kevin (Amanda), and her granddaughters Isabella and Sophia. And last, but most certainly not least, her beloved Sheltie, Chanel.
