Hyland Bryant Packard Jr, a retired Recent American History Professor from University Of Houston, passed away on June 26, 2023 at Cornerstone Specialty Hospital in Conroe, Texas. He was 84 years old.
Hyland was born in Temple, TX on October 18, 1938. He is preceded in death by his wife Jackie Packard and his parents Hyland Packard Sr and Blanche Louise Lyons Packard. Hyland graduated from University of Louisiana Lafayette and is survived by his two sons, Bryant Packard, Mark Packard, his five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
After getting his Doctorate in American History in Louisiana, Hyland moved his family to Houston until his retirement, at that point he and Jackie permanently moved to their lake house in Coldspring, Texas.
Hyland wrote his Dissertation, “Critic as Witness: Francis Hackett and His America, 1883-1914”, getting his PHD at LSU.
Hyland enjoyed his morning and evening walks with his dog Bear, visiting with neighbors and the local deer on the shores of Lake Livingston. He would exercise and socialize with his community at the Coldspring Senior Citizens Center throughout the weekdays. Hyland was an incredible intellect and had a wonderful sense of humor. The Marx Brothers movies were a family tradition which he passed onto his children and grandchildren. His infectious laugh and rewarding conversations will be missed
A Celebration Of Life will be scheduled at a later date, His and Jackie’s ashes will be scattered into the lake per his wish.
