Harold Dewayne Burns joined the love of his life of 53 years, Jimmie Nell Gladden Burns, in Heaven on Thursday, March 26, 2015. He was born January 30, 1932 in Keo, Arkansas to Roy Ernest Burns and Mary Seretha Ballinger Burns. He was the third of five children: Jean Lois, Elza Lee, Clay Lamonyne, and Ernestine.
Harold has been a Conroe resident since 1959. He was a devout man of God and a member of First Assembly of God Church in Conroe for 56 years where he served as Deacon and many other roles in service to the church. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 42 years where he held roles of Foreman, Roadmaster, Brakeman and Conductor. After retiring from the railroad, he enjoyed working for several local car dealerships delivering vehicles from dealership to dealership all over the United States. He maintained his healthy lifestyle for many years with daily exercise; you may have seen him on his daily 12-mile walk around the City of Conroe. Or, you may have seen him with a full Santa Claus beard driving his red convertible spreading Christmas joy. In his later years, he built many birdhouses and, at this very moment, birds are enjoying his handiwork.
Harold leaves behind his loving family; daughter Susie Green and son-in -law Randy Green of Conroe; daughter Dlorah Burns deVore of Little Rock, AR; granddaughter Maranda Green Harris and grandson-in-law David Harris of Conroe; granddaughter Rachel Green Fortner, grandson-in-law Tom Fortner and great-grandson McClane Liam Fortner of Spring. His extended family members will likewise miss him at the Burns Family Reunion that he faithfully attended each year.
A private celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. In honor of his best friend, Winnie, a Chiweenie-mix rescue dog, the family requests donations to be made in his name to Montgomery County Animal Shelter (mcaspets.org).
