George Martin (Marty) Greer was born on June 4, 1955 in Port Arthur, Texas to Merle and Delores O’Neal Greer. He passed away on March 23, 2020 in Houston, Texas, at the age of 64. He was a resident of Willis, Texas.
Originally from East Texas, Marty moved with his family to the College Station area in the early eighties. He had left the family construction business to begin his lifelong career in law enforcement. It was during this time he secured the first computer crime conviction in state history. His continued success led to his appointment to the Texas Narcotics Task Force, fighting the War on Drugs which involved performing large-scale sting operations and undercover work. In 1988, he was recognized by the Texas Narcotics Officer Association and received a Regional award as Officer of the Year for his outstanding investigative work.
In 1989, the family moved to the Houston area when Marty was hired by the U.S. Customs Service. Initially he worked as an Air Interdiction Officer in the Customs Air Branch, apprehending criminals attempting to smuggle contraband by plane both in the U.S. and South America. He transferred out of the air branch and ultimately achieved the rank of Senior Special Agent.
During this time he also answered the Lord’s call to serve as a lay pastor, feeling led to minister to the senior citizens residing in The Woodlands area. Through this ministry he was able to perform church services for elderly residents that would not otherwise be able to attend religious services. One of his most joyous moments was the baptism of a 92 year old woman in his congregation.
In his retirement years Marty enjoyed many happy moments with his grandchildren who lovingly called him “Paps”. He was a man of great integrity who instilled these values in the lives of his children. He looked forward to attending church each Sunday greeting everyone with his warm smile.
Preceded in death by his father, Merle Greer, Marty is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Donna, son Gabriel Greer of Spring, TX; daughter Ashley Roberts & husband Jimmy of New Waverly, TX; grandchildren Lanta Lee, Cassidy and Jimmy Dean Roberts; his mother Delores Barron of Willis, TX; brother Randy Greer & wife Becky of Shiner, TX and sister Krystie McGowan & husband Dwight of Tyler, TX.
