Edwin Wayne (Ole) Johnson, 82, died peacefully on December 13, 2013 of acute myeloid leukemia (AML). He was born in Denver, Colorado to Edgar Carl Jonson and Elsie Suzanna Nylund. Following the early death of his mother, he was raised by his father and step-mother, Eugenia Mae Jarman. Ole graduated from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado and joined the Air Force in 1953. His flying career took him to foreign assignments in Japan, Viet Nam and Peru, in addition to stateside bases in Washington, Texas, Arizona, Virginia and Mississippi. Upon his retirement in 1980, he and his wife, Ann, settled in April Sound. His interests in wood and remodeling led him to work with the Houston-Galveston Council on Aging. Through this agency, he built wheelchair ramps and made other renovations so that others could stay longer in the comfort of their own homes. Ole had a life-long appreciation of music and sang many years with his church choir and the Conroe Chorale. He and Ann joined singing tours to England, Wales, Germany and Austria and traveled with a men’s chorus to sing in Sweden. Ole’s hobbies included woodworking, skiing, playing golf and traveling to visit family and friends. He is survived by Ann, his wife of 55 years, his daughter, Lynn Jenkins (Steve) of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and son, Burt Johnson of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; sisters, Arlene Wynn of Rockford, Illinois and Lorraine Miles of Fruita, Colorado and brother-in-law Thomas Fitzgerald of Tallahassee, Florida, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 20, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church 2727 North Loop 336 West in Conroe. Interment will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas at a later Date.
