Dr. Edward R. Perez, age 53, passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly Friday, March 22, 2019, in Spring, Texas. Edward was a pathologist for Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and was currently working out of Huntsville Memorial Hospital.
Edward was born June 25, 1965, in Lebanon, Oregon to Mr Angel Edwardo Perez and Mrs Irene Perez of Gulf Breeze Florida. Edward is survived by his loving wife, Karen (Oberle) Perez, his daughters, Alexandra Perez and Haley Perez, all of Spring, Texas, his parents, Angel Edwardo and Irene Perez, his brother, Dr. Brian Perez and his wife, Wendy Perez , from Gulf Breeze, Florida . Edward is also survived by his Mother and Father in Law, Arnold and Ann Oberle of Bossier City, Louisiana, sisters and brothers in law, Mark and Shannon Oberle of Madison, Mississippi and Lauren and Shane Culver from Haughton, Louisiana. His nieces and nephews adored going fishing with “Uncle Eddie” and will miss him very much-Brent Perez and fiance’ Lauren Miele, Austin and Braden Oberle, Solon, Hudson, and Lanndry Culver.
He moved with his family to Patterson, Louisiana where he graduated Valedictorian from Patterson High School in 1983. Edward then attended University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana. In 1987, he graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Minor in Chemistry. He then went on to attend Medical School at Louisiana State University Medical Center at Shreveport in Shreveport, Louisiana. He received his Doctor of Medicine in June of 1991. Edward did his post graduate training at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas from 1991-1995 where he completed a Pathology residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He then went on to complete a Fellowship in Anatomic Pathology with an additional focus on immunohistochemistry staining at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
After completing his training in Houston, Edward and his family moved to Victoria, Texas where he worked for 14 years at Regional Medical Lab and out of Citizens Medical Center. He was currently working at Baylor College of Medicine where he held the title of Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology and Immunology.
Edward had been active in his church’s Mens’ Service group, had served on the Board of Directors for Hospice of South Texas in Victoria, Texas and had been a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Victoria, Texas. Edward spent many hours fishing in Port O’Connor, Texas. He loved saltwater fishing, especially with his girls and nieces and nephews. He will be missed so very much!
A Celebration of Ed’s life will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019, at 11 am, Pastor Harry Vein Officiating, with at Visitation and Lunch immediately following the service at Faith United Church located at 2403 Rayford Road in Spring Texas, 77386.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Texas and to the Boys and Girls Club of Walker County, PO Box 8600, Huntsville, Texas 77340.
