She was born Dorothy Nell Rollins to J.W. “Dick” Rollins and Minnie Powers Rollins in Tyler, Texas. Dorothy was the youngest of four girls and shortly after her birth, her father left her mother to raise the girls alone. Minnie ended up taking the girls to Sand Springs, Oklahoma where she lived and helped take care of her paraplegic brother, Jim Rollins. Minnie ran a boarding house and Uncle Jim ran a “Fix-it” shop in front.
When Dorothy was 15 years old, she met a handsome 21 year old Tulsa man at the roller rink named Art Cullison, whom she fell in love with and ended up marrying. At 16, she gave birth to a son, Gerald Arthur Cullison in Tulsa. Within a couple of years they ended up moving to Texas where Art worked on drilling rigs on the Texas coast where Carol Ann was born in Sinton, Texas in 1944. Then they moved on to the West Texas oilfields where Roger Lee Cullison was born in 1946 in Odessa where they raised their kids, and where they continued to live until Art retired due to age and bad health. They eventually moved to Montgomery, Texas near Houston where they could be close to their children and his heart doctors. Dorothy and Art lived at Lake Conroe until 2015 when due to age and health problems, she had to move to an assisted living facility and eventually to Southern Knights Memory Center in Tomball, Texas where she was taken care of until her death.
Dorothy finally met her dad when she was grown and married and had a good relationship with him until his death as well as her mother and her step-mother, Lula Mae.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her three sisters, and her granddaughter, Casandra Cullison. Dorothy leaves behind, her three children, Gerald (Jerry) Cullison and wife Betty, Roger Cullison and wife Cheri, and her daughter Carol Johns, and husband Carroll Lee Johns.. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She will be missed by all!
Dorothy was a member of Montgomery United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Texas for approximately 35 years.
Visitation will be held at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe, Texas on Monday, February 4, 2019 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm. There will be a graveside service on the same day at Garden Park Cemetery at 2:00pm.
