With great sadness, the Vincent family announces the passing of their father, David Patterson Vincent. David was born on June 28, 1932, to Lilian Emily Thyme Vincent and Francis Perreira Vincent in Georgetown, Guyana, and left us on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the age of ninety-two.
David married his sweetheart, Norma Elaine Vincent in Guyana in 1958. They were married for fifty-eight years and raised five sons. David started his career as a pharmacist in British Guiana, now Guyana. He was hired by Charles E. Frosst & Co., a Canadian Pharmaceutical Company, and was moved to Trinidad & Tobago to be their medical service representative for the Windward and Leeward Islands, Barbados, Trinidad, British and Dutch Guiana. Frosst & Co. was later acquired by Merck, Sharp & Dohme, and David worked for Merck for 28 years. As he moved up the executive ranks, it required him and his family to live in several countries including Puerto Rico, Colombia, and the United States.
David retired as vice president of Merck in 1989, and they moved from New Jersey to Texas. Soon after, they bought a home in River Plantation in Conroe so he could enjoy his passion for playing golf full-time. David was well known at the River Plantation golf course and other Houston courses where he won many tournaments. His characteristic banana slice off the tee that he managed to always land in the middle of the fairway was remarkable. At 80, he was still so competitive that he almost shot his age, but when it was mentioned, he got distracted and ended up shooting a bogey on the last hole.
David and Norma traveled around the world and were avid cruisers. They enjoyed traveling alone but also took all their children and their families on many cruises. Their world revolved around their sons, “the boys” and many grandkids. Their unwavering support and devotion to each family member’s success was a constant. David loved the outdoors and took pride in his garden; always caring for the rose bushes, which he planted for Norma. His beloved Norma was his life and his passion. They are now reunited in heaven to spend eternity and watch over their family.
David is survived by his son Dave (Barbara); his son Delano (Tery); his son Dale (Joyce); his son Duane (Virginia); and his son Dwight (Michelle); his grandchild David Paul, his grandchild Deianeira Alexandra, his grandchild Danee Leilani, his grandchild Ashley Demi (Courtney), his grandchild Daniela Paola (Tony), his grandchild Daniel Rafael, his grandchild David Patterson, his grandchild Renatta Jolie, his grandchild Rhiana Jourdain, his grandchild Rachelle Nicolle (Patrick), his grandchild Ryan Nicklaus, his grandchild Diego Francisco, his grandchild David Francisco, his grandchild Dolci Sophia, his grandchild Lexy Paige (Austin) and his great-grandson Deacon.
One of nine children, David was also a devoted brother, and father figure who made sure his mother, Emily, and siblings were cared for. He is survived by Veda, Esther, Pauline (Aubrey), Gordon Aubrey (Yvonne), and preceded in death by Aubrey “Bonny”, Evelyn, Kent, and Daniel.
