Born November 9, 1937 to Benjamin and Faye Gubser, Dave was raised on a small family farm in Fairfax, Missouri with his four sisters and two brothers. Married 65 years, he first met his wife Marjorie Ellen Goltz on a blind double-date in Omaha, Nebraska. Love at first sight, they had a short courtship and were married two months later, in Falls City, Nebraska. They were blessed with a large and loving family, having five children within seven years.
Dave was a dedicated, hard worker and it showed in his 32-year career with Texaco. Starting as a truck driver transporting fuel, he moved up the ranks to supervising the building of Texaco Stations in North and South Dakota, and finally to corporate positions in Denver and Houston.
It was clear to all who knew Dave that his greatest loves in life were Marge, his family, and Jesus. Dave and Marge shared a love for hosting family gatherings steeped in beloved traditions. They also enjoyed accommodating the family for memorable vacations at their summer home at Lake of the Ozarks, MO. It became a rite of passage for the grandkids to get to the age they could spend summers at the Lake with Grandma and Grandpa without their parents. When together, the grandkids often reminisce about their favorite memories at the lake with Grandma and Grandpa.
Deeply devoted to his wife and marriage, Dave began each day reciting the Lord’s prayer with Marge and expressing his love to her. Dave was a faithful servant of Christ and it was very important that his family know and love Jesus as well. At every gathering, in every letter, and at every corporate prayer Dave would make it a point to plea for the salvation of his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Many people have accepted Christ because of Dave’s relentless prayer and encouragement.
Dave is missed and survived by his wife Marge (Goltz) of 65 years; and his children, Ronnie (Lani) Gubser of Spring, Pam (Charles) Borsos of Sugar Land, Sandra (John) Hanson of McKinney, and Marlin Gubser (Tammy) of Spring. His oldest daughter, Susan (Bob) Johnson of Allen passed away from cancer in 2012. Dave leaves behind 16 grandkids, 19 great-grandkids, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Janice Pierce, of Fairfax, MO, and brother Ray Gubser, of Rogers, AR. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother George, and sisters Phyllis Fletchall, Mona German, and Maxine Porter.
A celebration of life for Benjamin will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Metcalf Funeral Directors, 1801 E White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas with a visitation one hour prior.
