It is with deepest sorrow that the family announces the unexpected passing of Daniel Robert Wilds, beloved husband, and father. Daniel (Dan) was born on August 16, 1962, in Detroit, Michigan, and born into eternal life on May 4, 2024, at Houston Methodist Hospital in The Woodlands, Texas.
Dan was the fourth son of a fourth son, born to Andrew and Lois (Bailey) Wilds. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1980 and attended The University of Michigan. He transferred to McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana where he graduated with a business degree in management in 1984. He later attended the University of Houston obtaining a master’s degree in environmental engineering in 1993 and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 1996. Dan achieved the designation of Registered Professional Engineer in 1999.
In 1984, Dan married his college sweetheart and the love of his life, Ann Bernard in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The two made their home in Texas, eventually settling in Conroe. In 1996, they welcomed the birth of their cherished daughter Danielle. They would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in September.
Dan began his professional career in business with Allstate Insurance. After several years, he returned to college changing his focus to engineering. It was there he found his passion. While he worked for various engineering firms, most of his career was spent in the Montgomery County engineering department. He spent over twenty-two years with the county, most recently as the County Engineer. A man of faith, Dan was a long-time member of WoodsEdge Community Church. He was also a former school board member at Covenant Christian School where he often served as a volunteer bus driver, scorekeeper, and sideline encourager to all of the students.
Dan held many titles in his lifetime: husband, father, brother, son, uncle, friend, leader, and mentor. In each of those, he will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, keen intellect, work ethic, and steadfastness. He made time for everyone and gave willingly of himself. His baking skills were legendary as was the size of his heart.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his twin sister, Theresa Wilds. Dan is survived by his wife Ann and daughter Danielle; brothers Michael (Debra), Patrick, and Kevin; Kristin Ebert and family; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored him along with many loving in-laws.
It has been said that it is not the length of the dash between the day you were born and the day you pass away that matters, it’s what you do with it. And though his dash was far too short, Dan used his well. He was a humble man of deep, though quiet, faith in God, who loved his family and friends well, served others freely, and earned immense respect from all those who knew him.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, May 18th at 4:30 pm at WoodsEdge Community Church, 25333 Gosling Road, Spring, Texas 77389.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made either to a charitable organization of one’s choice, or to the Dan Wilds Memorial Fund which will be used primarily to establish a scholarship in his honor.
