Randy was born November 24, 1938 in Texarkana and was raised in New Boston, Texas. His dedication, devotion and success in high school baseball landed him the opportunity to attend Texas A&M University on a full baseball scholarship, as catcher, and contributed to the 1959 Southwest Conference baseball championship team. Upon receiving his Bachelors of Business Administration in 1961 and Masters of Business Administration in 1962, Randy applied the same dedication and devotion to Gulf Oil Corporation for 22 years. Upon retiring from Gulf Oil, he was called into leadership with NCS Incorporated as Sr. Vice President of Gasoline, Marketing and Real Estate for 10 years, before formally retiring to enjoy his passions.
Randy loved to play golf, as he was “competitive”. Quail hunting and crappie fishing (with corks!) was never denied. Other than his grandchildren and family, his most passionate (and sometimes frustrating) focus was his love of Texas A&M sports. Unwavering in his continual support through the good years and the “not” so good years. A true Texas Aggie 12th Man!!! With that being said, the family can think of no greater honor than to have a “Maroon Out” at his services.
Randy is survived by his lifelong friend, classmate, companion and loving wife of 54 years, Lynda R. Wortham; son Cary R. Wortham and his wife Kelly of Conroe, Texas; two wonderful grandchildren, Chase R. Wortham and Kylie K. Wortham, whom he loved and spoiled with every moment; sister Marilyn Youngkin and her husband Bill of Bryan, Texas; brother Gary C. Wortham and his wife Sharon of Fort Worth, Texas; brother-in-law Bill Thomas of Hooks, Texas; sister-in-law Rhonda Murdock and her husband Jr. of Grapevine, Texas; many loving nieces and nephews whom he adored; and a very special “adopted” son and brother to Cary, Jeff Smith of Katy, Texas. Randy is preceded in death by his parents, C.R. Wortham and Mary C. Wortham.
The family truly appreciates the professional and compassionate care provided by Dr. Sachin Chandrasenan, Dr. Paul Cunningham, Dr. Amanda Busford and especially Dr. Eric Kleinbaum and his wonderful staff. Most importantly, our home caregivers, Debra DuBois, Shelby Hannah and Jeannie Stegner….truly special individuals.
