Bruce Patterson Thomson, born on April 6, 1938 in Pasadena, California, to the late Ruth Howell Thomson and the late James Frederick Patterson Thomson, passed away at age 80 on May 21, 2018 in The Woodlands, Texas. Bruce attended Arcadia High School and later San Marino Preparatory School where he graduated in 1956. He attended Claremont Men's College. In his youth, Bruce was an active member in the DeMolay service organization in Arcadia and it was through DeMolay that he met his wife, Judy. Bruce and Judy were married in 1960 and raised 3 children in La Verne, California. Bruce had a strong work ethic and set an excellent example for his children. He was in the Retail industry as the Credit Manager and later Store Manager at Hinshaw's Department Store. He was a loving father to his kids as well as a devoted husband to Judy until her passing in 1992. Bruce loved music and he played the sousaphone in the school marching band. He had an extensive CD collection but he especially enjoyed patriotic marches as well as music of the 50s. Bruce was always very outgoing and while living at The Forum senior community in The Woodlands he was an eager participant in all of the activities including bingo, trivia, lunch bunch, movies and anything else that they had planned for the residents. Bruce was a member of the La Verne Heights Presbyterian Church for over 45 years where he served in a variety of roles. Bruce and Judy made lifelong friends at the church but the most important friendship that was formed was with Jesus. He professed his faith in Jesus as Savior and we are confident that Bruce is walking hand in hand with Judy in heaven today. Bruce is survived by his sons, Bob Thomson (Susan Thomson) of Yorba Linda, California and Steve Thomson (Jenne Thomson) of San Jose, California; daughter, Patty Royall (John Royall) of The Woodlands, Texas; brother, Dick Thomson (Annette Thomson); sister, Anne Prescott (Marj Thomas); grandchildren, Matthew Royall (Hannah Royall), Lindsay Allen (Josh Allen), Peter Royall, Ben Thomson, and Andrew Thomson; and great-granddaughters, Grace Allen, Annie Allen, and Violet Allen. Friends and family are welcome to attend the memorial service, officiated by Reverend John R. Springer, on Saturday, June 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the La Verne Heights Presbyterian Church, 1040 Baseline Road, La Verne, California, 91750. The funeral home will be Rose Hills Memorial Park, 3888 Workman Mill Road, Whittier, California.
