Brian was born in Alpine, Texas near Big Bend National Park, and his family moved to Houston when he was two. He graduated from Rice University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1980, and worked as an engineer and economic analyst for ExxonMobil for over 35 years. He fell in love with his future wife, Cindy Kiest, during a backpacking trip to Big Bend, and they were married in September 1984. Big Bend remained a special place for Brian and his family throughout his life.
Brian and Cindy and their two sons lived in Clear Lake until both boys were out of college. His sons followed in his footsteps in the field of science and engineering, with David becoming a chemistry professor at Nevada State College, and Steven working as a process engineer and decision analyst for Chevron Technology Ventures. In 2013, Brian and Cindy began designing their dream home. By 2015 it was built and they moved to Bentwater on Lake Conroe. The Coopers enjoyed travelling; visiting various national parks throughout the United States with their sons and taking cruises all around the world after they retired.
Brian loved sports. He coached both boys in soccer, baseball, and basketball, and especially enjoyed playing golf in his later years. He liked being outdoors and volunteered as an assistant scoutmaster and committee chairman for Boy Scouts of America when the boys were younger. Brian joined Cindy singing in the Sacred Heart church choir and neighborhood Amen Chorus after they moved to Bentwater.
Brian is preceded in death by his mother, June Cooper Price, and his father James Robert Cooper. He is survived by his brother Tim Cooper, his sisters Lori Smith and Lindy Healy, his wife Cindy Kiest Cooper, and sons David and Steven Cooper.
