A tribute to my dear friend Bonnie Stacey Watson

I have known Bonnie for the past 4-5 years since she and Terry moved to Montgomery, very near where me and my husband lived.  I first met her when she visited our Union Grove Baptist Church Ladies Bible Study and this visit was the start of a long, cherished friendship.  There are so many things I loved about Bonnie it's hard to know where to begin.  Her character was beyond reproach.  She was loving, caring, and one of the most selfless people I have ever known.  After joining the church she was very committed to many jobs she took on and also very committed to her church family friends.  We have been in the same Bunko group since start up about 4 years ago and she just blessed me every time we met with a big heartfelt bear hug and friendly smile.  I know Bonnie lived with a lot of pain in her body yet every time I asked her how are you feeling, her response always would be I'm here aren't I.  What a positive person she was; you had to get to know Bonnie to see beneath that somber, sometimes quirky demeanor, because inside Bonnie's heart as big as Texas.

She knew I had a daughter-in-law fighting last stages of cancer and she not only prayed for Linda and encouraged me often, one day she showed up at the house with this beautiful quilt she had made especially for Linda.  Beautiful colors and the back side was the softest flannel, just perfect to comfort a bed-ridden person.  I still remember how impressed my husband, Ken, was with this beautiful quilt and how he praised Bonnie's handiwork and how that day began a special, close relationship between him and Bonnie.  They talked at length about the specialness of quilters and he told her about all the fond memories he had of his Mom and sisters gathering at each other's home to work on quilts and share a meal.  At one point he decided to show Bonnie his favorite, patchwork quilt that his mother made for us, drawing attention to the condition it was in.  The binding was worn off in several places and the quilt itself was literally coming apart.  He told Bonnie that this is what he covered with every morning and evening while watching TV and followed that with the  question to Bonnie Would you consider making me a new quilt if I would pay you?  Without changing her expression, she dryly replied Nope, I don't do that.  I immediately tried to cover what I considered to be an awkward moment with Honey, quilting is a hobby for Bonnie, she doesn't sell her quilts.  Then he apologized to Bonnie for asking and she just smiled.

I can't give an exact time frame of time passing, but not very long after that day I pulled into my driveway and noticed Bonnie's car.  As I went into the house I found a smiling Bonnie and an ear-to-ear smiling Ken holding a beautiful quilt she had made for him which he fondly called his Bonnie Quilt. From that moment he began to think of something special he could give Bonne and eventually came up with building a wooden rocking horse for her grandson Billy for her to have at her house.  Ken and Bonnie are now together in heaven and I'm hoping have exchanged big hugs by now.

I have our Bonnie Quilt on display in my glass quilt trunk next to my bed as a constant reminder of my beautiful, sister in Christ, Bonnie Watson.  She will forever be in my heart until we meet again.

P.S. She also gifted me with a beautiful owl baby quilt for my first Great Grand, Jenna.

It's been a long time since I last spoke to Bonnie.  We did Girl Scouts together because of our daughters. Many meetings together. Many laughs.  Always a smile. always kind words. Pride in her daughters. Love for her husband. Diligent worker.  I know she will be missed by family and friends!

Bonnie was a beautiful quilter and great friend. John and I will always treasure the quilt she made for us. My sympathy to her family, she left us way too soon.

Bonnie was a true friend to anyone she called Friend and that was most everyone she met. She had a beautiful soul and a loving heart.  Prayers to her family as she will be missed by all that she touched.

We shall all miss Bonnie as she was a good friend.

Bonnie was such a sweet lady and a talented seamstress.  She was a sister in Christ and a valued member of the Joyful Age Sunday School class at Spring Baptist Church when she lived in Spring.  She will be missed.  My sympathy to her family.

She was her own woman; strong in spirit and soft in heart!  She was daring and delightful.  She was proud of Teresa and Tracy, absolutely adored her Caitlin and Billy and faithfully loved and supported Terry.  The void she leaves will be filled with so many dear and precious memories. We will miss you.

Jean and family, our prayers and love to all the family as Bonnie joined her father and grandma in Heaven.  Keep your memories close to your heart and she lives on in your heart.  God bless all of you. I would see Bonnie many years ago at her grandma house in Humble.  She was a very sweet lady. Love to all.

Bonnie was a dear friend and a very special lady.  I will miss her greatly.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
