Billy Ray Whatley, 73, of Cleveland, Texas passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 with his family by his side. Billy Ray was born October 10, 1941 in El Dorado, Arkansas. He loved being outdoors. As a kid, you could always find him hunting or fishing. After graduating from high school he joined the United States Marine Corp. and was stationed in California from 1960-1964. Billy Ray was a prime example of what hard work looked like. He had a successful career in the oil field which spanned for many decades. Billy started at the bottom and eventually became the superintendent over a fleet of multi-million dollar rigs in the United Arab Emirates, Brazil and the Gulf of Mexico. Billy was happy-go-lucky and always made people laugh. He enjoyed the little things in life. A perfect day to him would be to BBQ on the back porch with family and friends while drinking a “ cold one “. He was a man that worked hard and loved his family. He will be greatly missed. Billy and his family resided in Lafayette, Louisiana for 15 years before moving to the Houston area in 2000, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Neil Whatley, mother, Myrtle Rogers and sister Effie Jean “ Tootsie “ Hayner. He is survived by his wife, Donna Cox Whatley, son, Todd Whatley and daughter-in-law Regina, son, Chris Whatley, daughter Kristin Landrum and grandchildren Seth, Madison and Kayla. Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 1pm on Saturday, November 1,2014, at Cashner Colonial Chapel, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, Texas 77303. Funeral Service will begin at 3pm with Bro.
