survived by Roger and Niki Smith, Dayna Smith Fellows and Courtney Smith, five
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Billie was born September 19, 1930 in Maryville, Tennessee, in the foothills of the Smoky
Mountains. After graduating High School, Billie moved to Nashville to study Business
Administration. She met Hugh Courtney “Court” Smith at a drugstore soda fountain where
he, also a recent graduate, worked as assistant to the pharmacist. They fell in love, and
were married when both were 18 years old.
With the onset of the Korean War, Court enlisted in the U.S. Navy and reported to the
Bainbridge Training Center in Maryland. He and Billie moved to Bethesda, Md., where he
was stationed at the Navy Hospital. When discharged, Court became a salesman, and they
raised their family together. They moved to the Houston area in 1977 and lived there together until
Court’s death in 2005.
All three of Billie’s and Court’s children graduated college, a first for both of their own
families. She was a partner and business manager for their self-started business, Robotic
Scientific.
Billie was known to all of her friends and neighbors as a sparkling hostess, an enthusiastic
member of tennis teams and amateur troupes, and an ardent poll worker and lifelong
supporter of her beloved Grand Old Party.
All of her life, Billie loved Nature. Even while hobbled by age, she was thrilled by the song
of a bird, the aroma of a blooming shrub, the sight of clouds silently passing by. Now she,
too, has passed. Goodbye, Billie. We will remember you whenever we feel the beauty and
grace of this world.
