Bennie Joe Lewis, "B.J. or Ben," born to Alpha May Miller Lewis and Andrew Loys Lewis on October 2, 1932, went to be with the Lord on December 11, 2023, at the age of 91. Ben was born in Greenville, Texas, and moved with family to San Antonio, Texas, and lived there until he met his wife Lucy of 66 years of marriage. They married on May 19, 1956. They were blessed with three children: Randal, Sharon, and Timothy. Ben was an extraordinary angler. Other favorite pastimes were hunting, golfing, and social gathering. He and his beautiful bride, Lucy, were passionate about traveling and RVing, visiting nearly every U.S. state and Alaska twice.
Ben's work ethic and tenure were exemplary. He started this career as a photographer at Holt Machinery Co. in the Advertising department and wrote articles on Texas ranching. After graduating from Southwest Texas State University (Texas State) in San Marcos, Ben came to work for Yellow Freight System in 1958 as a sales representative in San Antonio. He worked in various capacities in Beaumont and Houston before being promoted to the general office as a division manager in 1974. He was promoted again in 1976 as the Sales Director. After retiring from Yellow Fright, he continued to work as a consultant in the shipping industry for several years.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents. He's survived by his wife, Lucy, of 66 years of marriage; son, Randal Lewis and wife Maria of Phoenix, AZ; Timothy Lewis and wife Robin of Longview, TX; Sharon Replogle of Montgomery, TX; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; along with many other family members and friends.
Funeral Service: A visitation for Ben will be held Monday, December 18, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe, TX 77303. A funeral service will occur after the visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. An entombment service will occur following the funeral service from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM in Garden Park Mausoleum, with refreshments served following the Service.
