Dr. Benjamin Franklin Hughes, Jr. born on August 10, 1939 in Magnolia Springs, Jasper County, Texas, passed away on December 28, 2022 at his home in Conroe at the age of 83 after a long and brave battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Dr. Hughes graduated from Beaumont High School in 1957, Rice University in 1961, and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical school in 1965. After residencies at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and Parkland Hospital in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Hughes served in the Indian Health Service in Arizona.
Dr. Hughes was a resident of Conroe for over 45 years. He was a radiologist at Conroe Radiology Associates until his retirement, and a dedicated member of the First Presbyterian Church of Conroe, where he served as deacon and elder. He also served as secretary of the Montgomery County Medical Society, and was a founding member of the Society of the Fifth Cave Book Club. A Master Gardener, Dr. Hughes loved to travel, read, spend time with his family and keep up with the latest computer technology.
Dr. Hughes was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Franklin Hughes Sr. and Mable Rodgers Hughes of Beaumont, and brother Jimmie Wayne Hughes of Anchorage, Alaska. He is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Judith Ann Farris Hughes; son Benjamin Franklin Hughes III and wife Eunhee Jang of Seoul, Korea; daughter Amy Hughes Fedosky and husband Keane of Rowlett, Texas; son Jeffrey Rodgers Hughes and wife Maria of Manhattan Beach, California; grandchildren Jacob Hughes Fedosky and wife Jennifer, Matthew Keane Fedosky and wife Michelle, Aaron Benjamin Fedosky, Grace Ann Fedosky, Sophia Isabella Hughes, Ella Carolina Farris Hughes, Kalila Hyunji Hughes and Kamil Hyunsoo Hughes; and great grandson Carter Nash Fedosky; brother Scott Hughes and wife Cathy; aunt Madie Rodgers Jones; brother-in-law Jack Farris; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank his long-time caregivers, Peggy Young, David “Pug” Harris, Sarita Phillips, Margie Ellis and Moses Olatunji.
A celebration of life for Benjamin will be held Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 2727 North Loop 336 West, Conroe, Texas 77304. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Hughes’ memory to Doctors Without Borders (DoctorsWithoutBorders.org) or the Houston Area Parkinson’s Society (HAPSonline.org).
