Her home, Hope Farms, was her favorite place to be. Over the years, Barbara raised cattle, ostriches, miniature horses and donkeys, chickens, and dogs at Hope Farms. She had her own gentle way of connecting with her livestock. Barbara had even the meanest of roosters sharing a bowl of cereal with her on the back porch. She loved “all God’s creatures”.
Barbara had a deep love of gardening and watching things grow. “Gardening is dirt therapy. Any problems I have just float away when I’m digging in the dirt,” she said. She was a Master Gardner and actively supported her local extension office by helping to organize their annual plant sale – a task she was well versed in. For over a decade, Barbara organized her own plant sale at Hope Farms. What started as a small open yard sale quickly turned into hundreds turning out every Saturday in May for years to see what Barbara had to offer that spring.
Barbara will be dearly missed by the Master Gardner community and her family. Her legacy of nurturing and growing will forever be remembered by all who loved her.
