Barbara Landry passed away in Conroe, Texas, on September 4, 2021 at 88 years old. Funeral services will be held at First Methodist Church, 4308 W. Davis Street, Conroe, Texas (77304) on Saturday, September 11 at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held at Cashner Funeral Home on Friday, September 10 from 5 until 7 p.m. For those who cannot attend the service in person, the church will be live streaming the service at www.fmconroe.com.
Barbara was born in Houston, Texas, on February 3, 1933, to Arlas Henry Houser and Erline Ray Houser. She graduated in 1950 from Milby High School in Houston, Texas, where she received a BBA degree with a minor in music at Sam Houston State Teachers College in 1954 and an MBA degree from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, in 1975. From 1954 to 1957, Mrs. Landry taught in the Business Department of Lutcher Stark High School in Orange, Texas, where she met her husband, Richard Andrew “Dick” Landry, Jr., an electrical engineer with Gulf States Utilities Company. The couple married in 1957 and lived for 13 years in Beaumont, Texas, where their daughter and son, Dianna and Kyle, were born. When Gulf States Utilities Company transferred Dick in 1970, they moved to Conroe, Texas, and Mrs. Landry taught in the Business Department of Conroe High School for 15 years, serving as the head of the department for several years until her retirement.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Landry, Jr.; brother and sister-in-law, Arlas Ray Houser and Donna Houser; and her sister, Erline Houser Cluff.
She is survived by her daughter, Dianna Carroll and husband, Bob of Conroe, Texas; her son, Kyle Landry and wife Anna, of Kyle Texas; her grandson, Jonathan Carroll, wife Tabitha and great grandson Joseph; her granddaughter, Brittany Landry; grandson, Andrew Landry; and her brother-in-law, Lorel Cluff, of Lubbock, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a very active member of the First Methodist Church, Conroe, Texas, for over 50 years. She sang in the Chancel Choir and also served for many years in various ministries, including the United Methodist Women, Beacon Sunday School Class, Board of Stewards, Trustees, Membership Care Team, and Lay Delegate to the Texas Annual Conference. Further, she was instrumental in establishing The Gathering Place at the church. In addition, she served for many years as music leader for the four-year-old Sunday School Class. Barbara was also a member of the Montgomery County Retired School Personnel and the Pan American Round Table. Barbara was a lifelong singer and performed solos in college, in churches and for weddings during her younger years.
As a very active member of the church and a teacher for many years, Barbara touched countless lives. If you are one of those, we know you are blessed to have known her.
