Ann Pratt Ray, passed away on June 4, 2016 at the age of 92 in Conroe, TX. She was born September 23, 1923 to Jack and Thalia Pratt of Carrollton, Alabama. Ann was the 4th child of 5 and the last to survive. She worked at Maxwell Field in Montgomery, Alabama during WWII and then at the Capitol of Montgomery for the Assistant Attorney General. She married Gene Ray in Montgomery, Alabama March 1945. Ann and Gene moved to Houston, Texas in 1950 and retired to Conroe in 1978. They were long-time members of Church of the Epiphany (Houston) and St. James Episcopal (Conroe). Ann was active in the Altar Guild at both parishes, Parish secretary at St. James, and a long-time member of Beta Sigma Phi.
Ann was predeceased by her parents, siblings (Jack, Sara Mills, Groce, and George) husband, and daughter (Thalia Ray). She is survived by her son, Gene Ray, her daughter, Anne Hoffman (Karl), and grandchildren, Michael (Kaitlin), Adrienne, and Hannah, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ann will always be known for her love of life, family, and friends. And for telling the truth, like it or not. She was an amazing Southern cook, seamstress, crafter, gardener, birdwatcher, people-watcher, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Metcalf Funeral Home, Conroe with the Rev. Debbie Daigle officiating.
