Al Waldo was born on August 15, 1938 in Atlanta, Georgia. He went home to the Lord on January 30, 2024.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn Childers Waldo; son, Jeff Waldo and wife Shelley; son, John Waldo and wife Terresa; daughter, Jennifer Waldo and wife Kay Macias; stepchildren: Mickey Childers and wife Kristy; Danny Childers and wife Kim; Kelly Sklar; Traci Stork; and Vicki McShan and husband Scott; granddaughter, Amanda Waldo; grandson, John-Ronald Waldo; grandson, Weston Waldo and wife Hanna; grandson, Skyler Waldo and wife Brooke; great-granddaughters, Harley and Jane; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by father, Lt. Col. William Slaton Waldo; mother, Ruby Geneva Wilson Waldo, his first wife, Carolyn Clark Waldo; sister, Charlotte Waldo Sisk; half-sister, Bonnie Bird Waldo Coxwell; and half-brother, William Slaton Waldo.
Al was a generous, kind, and loyal man whose passion for the Lord’s word led his journey through life. He cherished every blessing including time spent with his family, worshiping with the Men’s Adult 6 Sunday school class, traveling, caring for others and playing Rummikub each night with his wife, Carolyn.
He was born in Atlanta, Georgia but made his way to Conroe, Texas in 1977. He served as a member of the U.S. Air Force, where he found his place in the cockpit, among the clouds. He fell in love with the open skies and was a pilot for Trans-Texas Airways and Continental Airlines; receiving the Wright Brothers Master Pilots Award for 50 years in aviation safety.
He was an avid member in several organizations including Boy Scouts of America, Cub Scouts, Shriners International and was a 32 Degree Mason. He was a Deacon at First Baptist Church Conroe, where he served on many committees and made life-long friends. He was also very proud of his namesake, as Albigence Waldo served as a surgeon for George Washington at Valley Forge.
Some of his proudest work came from his time with his first wife, Carolyn Clark and raising their three children together. He felt blessed to begin a new journey in 2014 when he married Carolyn Childers, and welcomed her multitude of kids, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren into the mix.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation, support.kidney.org, or First Baptist Church Conroe, fbcconroe.org.
