Timothy Ray Laney

Timothy “Tim” R. Laney, age 61, of Conover, NC, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born October 10, 1952, in Catawba County, NC, he was the son of the late John Cecil Laney and Elizabeth Matthews Laney Blackburn.

Tim was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Catawba, NC, where he had served in numerous leadership roles on various boards and committees. He was the owner of Catawba Insurance Agency in Catawba, NC, and was a member and past president of the Independent Insurance Agents of NC (IIANC). Tim was also a member of Riverside Masonic Lodge #606 in Catawba, NC.

In addition to his parents Tim was preceded in death by his step-father, William “Bill” Blackburn, and father-in-law, David A. Hunsucker.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Barbie Hunsucker Laney of the home; daughter, Cameron Danielle Laney Bixby and husband Brian of Claremont, NC; sons, Patrick Hunsucker Laney and wife Becky and their daughter Peyton Elizabeth of Catawba, NC, and Taylor Hunsucker Laney and wife Katherine of Conover, NC; brothers, Barry Laney of Claremont, NC, Johnny Laney of Welcome, NC, Jeff Blackburn of Claremont, NC; step-brother, Steven Blackburn of Charlotte, NC; step-sister, Sandy Sherrill of Claremont, NC; mother-in-law, Raenell Sigmon Hunsucker of Catawba, NC; brother-in-law, Dale Hunsucker and wife Penny of Conover, NC; godchildren, Russell Little of Charlotte, NC, Geoff Rights of Philadelphia, PA, Ryan Rights of Conover, NC, Staci Hammonds, Jaime Mitchell, and Todd Prater all of Delaware; and nieces and nephews.

A service of remembrance and a celebration of Tim’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Redeemer Lutheran Church. The Reverend Gregory Alms will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church following the worship service. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, NC.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Barry Laney, Johnny Laney, Jeff Blackburn, Steven Blackburn, Michael Laney, and Dale Sherrill. Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Catawba Insurance Agency.
