Richard "Dick" Darrell Bolick

Born to Charles L. "Jack" and Katherine Bolick on Sept. 22, 1936, in Hickory, North Carolina, he lived most of his life in North Carolina. While in Washington, D.C., where he served in the National Guard and the U.S. Army, he met and married the one true love of his life, Betty Jean Sharp, of Rome, GA. They were married on Dec. 20, 1956.

In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by his wife of 55 years, Betty Jean Sharpe Bolick and sister, Jackie Whitener.

He is survived by brothers Roger (and wife, Shelbia) Bolick of Cartersville, GA, and Wally Bolick of Carson City, NV; sons Dr. Chuck (and wife, Suzee) Bolick of Blountville, TN and Tony (and wife, Christy) Bolick of Asheboro; and three grandchildren Caitlin (and husband,Kevin) Carron, Christian and Jorja Bolick, along with extended family Curtis R. Sharpe, wife MaryElla, and daughters Rebecca and Rachel.

Dick was a loyal, loving family man who gave more of himself to others than was ever asked and was always there for family, even when they weren't really family. He was truly loved, and his presence can be found around the area from those who knew him. Dick used his sense of humor to brighten the lives of everyone he encountered. He always kept those around him laughing, even people he did not know - he never met a stranger. He was a proud supporter of Newton-Conover High School and past Booster Club president and officer during the times his children came through school and even after. For many years, you could find him in the stands cheering on the Red Devils.

The family will receive friends at Drum Funeral Home in Conover on Friday, May 14, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., and at other times at the home.
