She was born June 15, 1931, in Catawba County, to the late Eulan Everette Sigmon and Alberta Viola Spencer Sigmon.
Mary was a life-long member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. She retired from Ridgeview Hosiery Mill. Mary enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James “Bill” Gilleland; and brother Frank E. SIgmon.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law James W. “Jim” Gilleland, Jr. and wife Karin, of Panama City, FLa., and Danny E. Gilleland and wife Patty, of Conover; grandchildren Jamie Tomaszewski and husband David, of Annapolis, MD, Harley Gilleland and wife Anna, of Catawba, Capt John Gilleland, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps stationed in Alexandria, VA, and Staff Sgt. Jason Gilleland, serving in the Fla. National Guard and wife Jessica of Panama City Beach, Fla.; and great-grandchildren Dakota, Canyon, and Kaya Gilleland.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, November 5, 2012, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Greg Alms officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Drum Funeral Home in Conover.
