Born May 14, 1947 in Cabarrus County, NC, Judy was the daughter of the late Charles Robert Plummer and Katherine Gales Plummer.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Brian Whisnant and wife, Sommer, of Nashville, Tennessee, daughters, Maria Setzer of Hickory, and Kari Whisnant of Hickory, brother, Robert “Buster” Plummer and wife, Desiree, of Kannapolis, sister, Ellen Trexler and husband, Clarence, of China Grove, grandchildren Spencer Whisnant, Makenzie Setzer, Jayden Setzer, Jack Whisnant, Hadley Whisnant, Caroline Whisnant, and Brody Whisnant. She is also survived by the father and step-mother of her children, Barry and Kathy Whisnant of Catawba.
Judy was a lifetime educator in many ways. She served as a teacher with Catawba County Schools and the NC Department of Public Instruction for nearly 40 years. During her career she received numerous honors and awards including the Terry Sanford Teacher of the Year award and National Board and Master Teacher certifications. Additionally, she was a peer mentor and tutor. She was a faithful member and leader in her home church, Mt View UMC. Among her contributions, she served as Organist and head of Children's Ministries. She was a role model and inspiration. She touched the lives of countless children, leaving a loving and lasting impression on their lives. Judy was a dedicated and proud mother and grandmother. Her family was her life and brought her joy beyond measure. Her legacy of love will live in their hearts always.
A gathering of friends and celebration of Judy’s life will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Mt. View United Methodist Church in Claremont. Rev. Richard Irwin will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:15 am.
