James Miller Hood, age 88, of Conover, NC, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at Catawba Regional Hospice in Newton. Born October 13, 1924 in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Robert Ernest Hood and Annie Kathleen Hicks Hood. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Vernelle “Nell” Hoke Hood of the home; daughters, Connie Hood Engart and husband Henry “Hank,” of Hickory, Robbie Hood Rowe and husband, Mark, of Charlotte; grandchildren, Kathleen Engart, Cameron Rowe, Rachel Rowe, Derrick Rowe, and Stewart Engart.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Hickory. His family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall.
