Born August 23, 1946 in Catawba Co., NC, to the late Roy C. and Virginia Lail.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Lail of 18 years, a brother, Larry F. Lail and his step-father, Floyd L. Sigmon. James was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and best friend. He graduated from St. Stephens High School and retired from Classic Leather after 18 years of service. Mr. Lail was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, church activities and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include a son, Jimmy P. Lail and wife, Amy of Hickory; a daughter, Lore A. Mellon and Ralph Sherman of Conover; a son, Brandon W. Lail of Conover; 3 brothers, Ronald E. Sigmon of Hickory, Melvin L. Sigmon of Conover and Harvey D. Sigmon and wife, Wendy of Hickory; grandchildren, Randy M. Mellon, II and wife, Sandy of Hickory, Bo A. Mellon and wife, Cassie of Bryson City; great grandchildren, Michael Mellon, Adam Mellon, Misty Mellon, Natalie Mellon, Branden Mellon, Lilly Moretz; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Pastors Kevin Graudin and Delbert Roth will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:45 pm on Tuesday at the church prior to the funeral.
