Gerald David Sipe, age 76, of Newton, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Catawba Regional Hospice, Sherrills Ford. Born July 29, 1939 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Harold Barringer and Rena Shook Bailey. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Newton. Gerald served 12 years in the United States Air Force and later worked until his retirement as a Mechanical Technician in the Automotive Industry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death in 2015 by his wife, Lena Ruth Keever Sipe; step-son, Dwight Sipe; and daughter, Jackie Ann Sipe.
Left to cherish his memory are his son, Jimmy Sipe and wife, Diane, of Newton; daughter, Teresa Sipe Rhodes and husband, Vance, of Georgia; step-son, Charlie Sipe and wife, Tracey, of Maiden; step-daughter, Teresa Sipe; five brothers, Bob Barringer, Ronald Barringer, Ernest Smyre, Jim Eckard, Nick Eckard; two sisters, Thelma Barringer, Harlene Hising; grandchildren, Ashland Rhodes, Wayne Rhodes; step-grandchildren, Vickie Goodin and husband, Daniel, Nick Sipe and wife, Brooke, Randi Sims and husband, Mike; step-great-grandchildren, Nixon Sipe, Blythe Sipe, Kristin Sims, Alex Goodin and Austin Goodin.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church with Rev. Ron Orovitz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites.
A Receiving of Friends will be held from 2:00 to 2:45 prior to the service.
