Born April 22, 1928 in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Preston C. and Annie Propst Swink.
Mr. Swink owned and operated Swink Heating and Air and was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. His passion was his work. He also enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. David spent many years involved in Boy Scouts of America. He served in many positions and touched many young boys’ lives through his work. David loved Boy Scouts of America. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and five brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Nora Lail Swink of the home and three sons, John David Swink, Robert Colan Swink and Bart Franklin Matthews; a sister, Patsy Swink of Lincolnton; a brother, Kenneth Swink of Lincolnton and five grandchildren, Laurin, Elena, Tyler, Alyson, and Hailey Swink.
A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 2014 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Conover.
Pastor Jeff Lindsay will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery on Houston Mill Road.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 pm, prior to the service, at the church.
