Born March 2, 1925 in Connersville, she was the oldest of ten children of the late John and Rachel Dunn Carlin. Ruth attended Connersville area schools and married John Thomas McKee on June 18, 1943. Ruth was employed at Stant Manufacturing until her retirement in 1987. She had previously worked at Clark’s Flower Shop and did custom baking in her home. Ruth was also a caregiver to several people. Ruth was a member of East Side United Methodist Church, where she was awarded “Mother of the Year” in 1962. She was also a member of Historic Connersville Inc. and Fayette County Senior Center. Ruth was an accomplished artist, focusing on acrylic painting. In her leisure time, she enjoyed crocheting. Through the years Ruth crocheted an abundant amount of toboggans for elementary children.
Ruth is survived by her children: Diana M. Pflum and husband, Phillip of Milton; Thomas E. McKee and wife, Marlene of Glenwood; Barbara Jennings of Connersville; Patricia A. King of Connersville; her son-in-law: Daniel Moster of Lyonsville; her siblings: Violet M. Harrison of Gings; Larry M. Carlin; David F. Carlin, both of Connersville; eleven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband: John Thomas McKee, who died April 21, 1972; her daughter: Brenda E. Moster; her siblings: John R. Carlin; Everett “Buddy” Carlin; Phyllis J. Wallace; Delores A. Arvin; Janice C. Copeland; Anna M. Barber; her son-in-law: Donnie Jennings; her great-grandsons: Steven Joseph Pea; Jacob McKee.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, with Rev. Malcolm Greene of East Side United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the East Side United Methodist Church.
