Robert Theodore Smith

Robert Theodore Smith, 79, died Monday, August 14, 2023 at Majestic Care in Connersville. Robert was born to the late Robert and Ophelia Harris Smith on July 16, 1944 in Louisville, Kentucky. He enlisted in the United States Army in April of 1964. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1965. Robert married Wanda on March 9, 1964 in Louisville. He was a public servant, who was employed as a transportation specialist prior to his retirement. Robert was a member of the Clover Leaf church in Louisville. He was an avid walker, and it is estimated that he walked at least 300,000 miles over the course of his lifetime. Robert enjoyed crosswords puzzles, playing cards and video games and watching old movies with Wanda. Robert was “The Man”. He would physically give the shirt off his back to help a comrade or friend when they were in need. Above all, Robert adored spending time with his family. They will miss him dearly. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; son: Scott Smith; granddaughter: Hope Peters. In addition to his wife Wanda of fifty-nine years, Robert is survived by his children: Gloria Peters and her husband Paul, Robert Smith and his wife Crystal, Tony Smith and his wife Jill, and Danny Smith; sister: Linda Moyle; grandchildren: Sabrina, Brody, Justin, Erica, Emily, and Paul William, Little Danny; great-grandchildren:Mercy, Isaac, Lowell, Natalee, Shiloh, Cora, Esme, Leah, Christian, Raegan Rowan, Renley, Kaidyn, Elyssia, Maynard, Troy, Mason, and Dawson; Nieces and nephews: Angela and Lonnie, Kelly and Troy, Sherry, Derek, Kelsey; great-nieces and nephews: Jessica, Sabrina, Gage, Mia Rose, Jiraiya, Derek, Ashley, Chelsea, Chris, Rilee, Braxton, Chandler, and Layton. A visitation will be conducted at Showalter Blackwell Long, Myers Chapel, Connersville on Friday, August 18, 2023. Friends may visit at the Funeral Home from 12:00p.m., until 2:00p.m. Burial will immediately follow at Laurel North Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Veteran’s Administration in Robert’s honor.
