Obituary of Myron C. Updike
Connersville native Myron C. Updike, 86, died Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Majestic Care. Myron was born on April 6, 1937 to the late Lawrence Updike and Izona Hamm Wright. He attended Milton High School prior to enlisting in the United States National Guard. After returning home, Myron worked his first job at Meadow Gold milk and later employed on the family farm, and Stant Corporation. He married the former Sue Limburg on May 9, 1959; together they shared twenty-seven years prior to her death. In 1963, Myron began working for Perfect Circle in Hagerstown, from which he retired after thirty-one years of service. He later married Ellen Gibbs Updike on November 24, 1999 in Connersville. He was a faithful member of the Moose Lodge, the AMVets, as well as, the American Legion. Myron enjoyed traveling and riding his motorcycle. In addition, he loved racing go-karts; Myron placed first at National’s several times over the years. He was an avid bird-dog hunter who devoted many years meticulously raising and training bird dogs called Brittany Spaniels. With his Spaniel by his side, Myron was awarded Field Champion, a title he was very proud of. However, nothing brought more joy to his heart than his family, children, and grandchildren, all of whom will miss him dearly. Myron is survived by his children and their spouses: Vonda Anthony and Bruce, Venetta Powers and Terry, Kyle Updike and Pam, Yvette Kidd and Dale; ten grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention. In addition to his parents and wife Sue, Myron is preceded in death by his wife Ellen; sisters: Barbara K. Sanders and Cloann Mositner; step-father: Robert Wright; niece: April Riggle. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00p.m., Friday, May 5, 2023 at Showalter Blackwell Long, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Karlene Gray, Evangelist officiating. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery in Dublin. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m., until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Cancer Society in Myron’s honor.
