A Connersville native, Jerry was born January 31, 1947, the fourth of seven children of Vernon W. and Arylin Dean Moore Ervine. He attended Connersville schools and joined the U.S. Navy in 1966 serving aboard the US Cambria as a boatswain’s mate third class. Jerry was a hard worker and had been employed at area service stations most of his life, including Herb’s Shell for over ten years. He had also worked at Ford Electronics. He was a very patriotic person and was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, AMVETS and American Legion. Jerry was a avid fan of Matt Howard and the Butler Bulldogs, loved the Indianapolis Colts and was a die-hard Purdue Boilermakers fan.
Jerry is survived by four children: Lashell Ervine of Osgood, Richard Ervine, Shawn Ervine, both of Greensburg; Aletia Colley of Rushville; a child he helped raise: Joe Dixon of Rushville; six siblings: Buddy Ervine and his wife, Hila of McKee, KY; Linda Ervine of Rushville; Danny Ervine of Connersville; Kendall “Punky” Ervine; Aletia Sweet and her husband, Bill; Donnie Ervine, all of Rushville; seventeen grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sister: Faye Manafee.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday where memorial contributions may be made to help defray funeral costs.
