On March 23, 1925, Esther was born at home in Hamburg in Franklin County to Michael and Josephine Cord Bedel and attended school there. She was devoted to her family and centered her life around them. Esther was eager to learn new things and was always open to an adventure. During World War II, she was employed at American Central. Esther was a member of the former St. Anne Catholic Church in Hamburg and later St. Gabriel Church in Connersville. In her leisure time, she enjoyed quilting, playing cards and visiting the casinos.
Esther is survived by her children and their spouses: James O. Tebbe and Bonnie of St. Louis, Missouri; Debbie K. McCullum and Mike; Judy Lykins and Larry, all of Connersville; David Tebbe and Annette of Ft. Wayne; her grandchildren and their spouses: Andrew Tebbe and Rebecca, Amy McCullum and her companion, Ron Cupp; Jon McCullum and Jennifer, Stacey Strickland and Denny, Chad Lykins and April, Dustin Lykins and Emily, Aaron Tebbe, Jared Tebbe, Dave Koenn, Emily Koenn; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law: Bertha Bedel of North Bellmore, NY and Marge Bedel, Oldenburg.
In addition to her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her husband: Howard D. “Toby” Goss, who died March 5, 2004; three brothers: Albert, Tom and Raymond Bedel and four sisters: Clara Niehoff, Mildred Nobbe, Irene Merkel and Martha Brunsman.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Dustin Boehm of St. Gabriel Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to St. Gabriel School.
