Onofrio (Bob/Knobby) Marcario of Valley Cottage (Rockland County) NY, passed away of natural causes at the age of 92, on August 30 th 2024. He was a beloved Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Father-in-law, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Uncle, friend and an active community member. One year prior to his death he became a resident of the Palms of Largo Senior Community (Florida), to be located closer to his family.
Onofrio is survived by his Daughters: AnneMarie (Edward) Fraley, Gina Nowack(Ronald Fondaw), Grandchildren: Joshua Fraley (Grace Mattoon), Nicholas Fraley, Gabrielle Nowack, Josette Marcario, Christopher Marcario and Anthony Nowack; Great-Grandchildren: Aviana Fraley, Dominic Fraley and Josephine Fraley; Brother: Ralph (Rose Marie) Marcario; Nephews: Ralph (Cindy) Marcario, Robert (Jamie) Marcario; also Survived by: Maria Marcario and Robert Nowack.
Onofrio is preceded by his Wife: Josephine Marcario (1994); Son: Louis Marcario (2021); Parents: Angelantónio (Angelo) (1982) and Marietta (Mary) Marcario (1999); Sister: Antonette Marcario (1944).
Onofrio was born in NYC to Italian immigrants Angelo and Mary. He graduated from Evander Childs High School in Bronx, NY. After Graduation Onofrio apprenticed as a Diamond Setter which became his lifelong career. Onofrio formed his own successful business, O Marcario Diamond Setting Inc. located in the Diamond District in Manhattan for 20+ years. He had a well revered reputation in the Diamond District as one of the best in his craft. He was often sought out to set custom pieces for displays as well as for celebrities. Onofrio eventually closed his business and was then employed at Tifany &Co. where he retired from. His legacy lives on in the many jewelry pieces he created for family, friends and many strangers.
Onofrio and Josephine began their family in Bronx NY, then moved to Yonkers and eventually moved to Congers NY. In Congers he lived near his brother Ralph and SIL Rose Marie. Onofrio’s parents also moved into an in-law apartment at his brothers’ home.
Onofrio was a faithful husband and a great family man. Onofrio loved to plan family vacations to the Catskill mountains and the seashore. He enjoyed fishing and sharing his passion for fishing with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Onofrio also loved the NY Mets, and he taught his children how to be Mets fans, win or lose. Onofrio took great pride in his Italian heritage and roots. Honoring and maintaining those traditions, including his love and appreciation for traditional Italian cuisine.
Onofrio developed a beautiful singing voice and all-around passion for music; he gave the gift of music appreciation to all his children. Broadway shows and Radio City Music Hall were frequent family outings. Most importantly Onofrio LOVED TO SING! He was a member of St. Paul’s Church Choir, Rockland Community Choir, St. Paul’s Players Theater Group and the Music Makers. He even took a trip to Europe and sang in many famous cathedrals, including Saint Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican.
Onofrio was a devout Catholic and raised his family in the Catholic Faith. He was an active member of St Paul’s Catholic Church in Congers NY. He planned and organized many men’s retreats and other events for St Paul’s Catholic Church. Onofrio was also an involved member of the Knights of Columbus Council 7104 in Congers NY. He enjoyed his service to KOC and believed in their mission. Moreover, Onofrio held
elected office of Grand Knight, Deputy Grand Knight and Treasurer for the Knights of Columbus. He organized many community service projects for KOC. In September 2023, before he moved to Florida to go into assisted living, he was honored with the award of Knight of the Year for all his years of service. His KOC service was given a rare Honored by Star Council. Onofrio is designated as Sir Knight Fourth Degree. Onofrio enjoyed socializing with the Clarkstown Seniors. He went on many trips with them, attended lunches, dances and was a regular the poker games.
Family, faith and community were the cornerstone of Onofrio’s life. His legacy will be upheld through his exemplary service and enduring love of Family.

Funeral Service for Onofrio Marcario will be at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 82 Lake Road Congers, NY, 10920, on Monday September 9, 2024, at 10am. Burial for Onofrio Marcario will follow the funeral mass at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave, Hawthorn NY, 10532.
A private luncheon reception will follow burial for Family Members and close friends.
