Mary Patricia Farrell (née McGovern) of Fort Lee, NJ, 85 years old, passed away peacefully on the morning of November 30th, 2020. “Aunt Pat” was born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, 1935 to Molly (Mary Lynch-Virginia, County Cavan, Ireland) and Michael McGovern (Dowra, County Lietrim, Ireland) who met and married in New York and raised their family in the Bronx. Pat attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine Elementary and High School, and upon graduation attended a program to become a Medical Technician and Medical Secretary. She was most proud of the 25 years she spent assisting the Chairmen of Neurosurgery, at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center, firstly Dr. Bennet Stein, and upon his retirement, Dr. Sander Connolly. In addition to facilitating care for their patients she became friend and family to all, especially her doctors. Her greatest joys were her family and world travel, and she often combined the two, visiting and travelling with family members and friends across the US, Europe and Asia. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Margaret McGovern and Judith McGovern, as well as cherished nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins and countless friends whom she considered family. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers James and Michael. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 9th at 10am, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Congers, followed by interment at Gethsemane Cemetery in Rockland Lake, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation at UMDF.org/CavanMcGovern/.
